London – England coach Fabio Capello confirmed that Wayne Rooney will play in Tuesday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland, despite tabloid allegations about his private life.
Rooney had a part in all of England goals in their 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on Friday, but Sunday tabloid allegations that he had used prostitutes while his wife Coleen was pregnant led to suggestions he may skip the game.
“Yes, he will play. During training he was really good and I spoke with him and he’s happy to play,” Capello said Monday.
“I know the players when they want to play – that is really important. Against Bulgaria he was really, really good on the pitch,” he added. “He will also be in a good situation tomorrow. I hope the performance of Rooney tomorrow will be the same as at Wembley.”

Two Irish feature films including Element Pictures Essential Killing and Blinder Films Sensation will screen at this years BFI London Film Festival alongside Risteard ODomhnaills feature documentary feature The Pipe. All three features are also screening as part of the Toronto International film festival which launches tomorrow. The BFI London Film Festival runs from the 13th to the 28th of October.
Essential Killing will screen on October 26th and 27th as part of the festivals Film on the Square series where films receive Leicester square screenings. Directed by Jerzy Skolimowski (Moonlighting), Essential Killing stars Vincent Gallo (Arizona Dream) and Emmanuelle Seigner (La Vie en Rose). The provocative thriller tells the story of an Afghan man, captured by American forces in Kabul, who finds himself transported to a nameless European country. He manages to escape into the vast frozen woodland, a world away from the desert home he knew. Forced into extreme survival mode, he must kill anyone who strays into his path.

Katrina Baker, 34, of Thistle Grove, WGC, and Valentina Janutiene, 37, of Cromer Hyde Lane, Lemsford, who set up the brothel, were given six-month prison sentences, suspended for two years.

Sharon Kerrigan, 48, from Becketts Close in London, was given a two-year conditional discharge.
Baker, Janutiene and Kerrigan had all admitted keeping a brothel for prostitution.

Dressed casually in jeans, Doug Stanhope looks less uncompromising US stand-up and more potter about to start work on some clay. Meanwhile, the trademark alcoholic haze that steadily creeps up on Stanhope (his poison for this performance is a double cocktail of beer and Jagerbombs) makes for the usual mix of the unfocused and the inspired.
At the start, Stanhope lowers our expectations by saying that he’s struggling to come up with “socially relevant shit” when one of the top stories over here is a ridiculous drama over the identity of the The Stig. Indeed, it’s only much later on that he gets his teeth into something as topically weighty as the economy, which he looks at from the point of view of a prostitute worried that unemployed financiers are about to saturate her profession.

Watching these miniseries again reminds us what a breakthrough “Prime Suspect” was when it first appeared on television. No TV police series — especially not “Cagney & Lacey,” the first American TV show to seriously focus on female police detectives — had ever made the issue of sexism in the police ranks an essential part of its theme and stories. At the center of just about every case is how Jane Tennison, despite her obvious intelligence and ability, has to continually assert herself in order to be successful in the male-dominated London police department. Even after she’s promoted to the rank of Detective Superintendent (in “Prime Suspect 4″), she never escapes condescension and subversion on the part of some male police officials.

Although “Prime Suspect” belongs in the “police procedural” genre of films and TV shows that focus on the inner workings of a police force, a related theme is how the London police, still largely male and white, react to and try to work in an increasingly multicultural Britain. Though …
