The new club, on the former site of the CC Club, next to the Trocadero centre at Piccadilly Circus, aims to be “the very best and most exclusive” that London has to offer, and it’s not shy about tapping a market of which predecessors steered well clear: the ladies.
On board to help raise awareness of the venue among female punters is Emma Sayle, she of orgy-organiser Killing Kittens fame, as a consultant. “We’ve themed it as a crossover club, with themed nights, entertainment and burlesque as well as the usual dancers,” she tells me. “We’d love the ladies to come along too – the idea that strip clubs are a primarily male domain is outdated.”

Union leaders clashed with London Underground tonight over the impact of strikes which caused travel misery in the capital. The Rail Maritime and Transport union said 24-hour walkouts over job losses set to end at 9pm were “solidly” supported and had crippled Tubes, leading to a “skeleton” service, or none at all on some lines. Inside, holding court at the bar, was the proprietor. In his Savile Row suit and display handkerchief, glass of champagne to hand, Paul Raymond was the godfather of sleaze.

When, on her opening night at the Revuebar, the boa got aggressive and started to squeeze, Miss Snake Hips had to be rescued by former heavyweight boxer turned doorman Nosher Powell. One gimmick, which featured naked girls swimming in a giant fish tank, nearly ended in tragedy when a performer passed out after being overcome by chlorine fumes. After this, Raymond restricted himself to less dangerous acts, such as one featuring a horse trained to remove girls’ underwear. A simple trick – sugar lumps attached to the lingerie at strategic points – ensured that neither strippers nor animal were injured.

Thrilled to be back making the third series of Being Human, BBC3’s “channel-defining” sleeper hit about a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf (George, played by Tovey) who share a flat. Excited to be back working in Wales – on- and off-screen, Being Human has shifted from Bristol to Cardiff – where he filmed cameo appearances in Gavin & Stacey (as Budgie, one of Gavin’s Billericay mates) and Doctor Who (as Midshipman Frame in the 2007 Christmas special with Kylie Minogue, and in David Tennant’s final episode last Christmas). Chuffed that this weekly schedule allows him to get home every Friday to his new flat in north London, and to his partner. (Tovey will happily talk about his sexuality, although he’d rather not discuss his relationship.)

Now that the Government’s independent banking commission is looking at reform in the industry, banking giant HSBC has announced that it intends to increasingly replace £20 Notes with the smaller £5 denomination as it runs down stocks of the banknote prior to leaving its London HQ.

LONDON (Reuters Life!) – One in four women who works as a lap dancer in Britain has a university degree and the majority of those involved in the industry enjoy their work, earning up to 48,000 pounds ($74,500) a year, academic research has found.
Rather than being pressured or forced into the job, researchers from the University of Leeds discovered that many women had chosen to get into lap dancing for the money or because it fitted in with their main careers.

The study comes as lap dancing clubs in Britain face tighter restrictions following a change in the law by the previous Labour government which gave councils the right to demand that all strip clubs apply for a sex establishment license.
