The topic of ghosts tends to be a polarizing conversation, one that often arises this time of year. Some believe vehemently in ghosts, while others equally as strongly deny their existence. But regardless of which side you fall on, there is something unexplainable occurring at the large, ornate inn on Fairfield Street.
Home with a past
Originally a single-family manor, the residence has served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, a house of prostitution and a home for fostered teenage boys. One man and two women have passed away within its walls; the man died in the living room in the early 1900s of a self-inflicted wound. A mentally ill man was kept locked in a small, windowless room on the third floor for years. The room is suffocatingly small, chilly even on a sunny October day, the cast iron turnkey lock still on the door.
