Australia has four entries on the budget list: the Diamant Hotel in Kings Cross, Villa Donati in Richmond, the Royal Mail Hotel in the Grampians and Limes in Brisbane.
“It’s something we wanted to do for a while but given we need to personally visit and approve each hotel it takes time,” the editor-in-chief of Mr & Mrs Smith, Juliet Kinsman, says. “At these prices they may not have some elements of the higher-priced hotels on Smith but they make up for that in other ways.”
She cites the four-bedroom Villa Donati in Richmond, which has been an archbishop’s residence, a doctor’s surgery and a massage parlour. “It has real flair, so you cut it some slack on the amenities,” Kinsman says.
