FACE-TO-FACE talks have taken place in London between the Government department at the centre of the Corus crisis on Teesside and a group of North-east investors.
The venture capitalists are thought to be one of three groups actively pursuing a deal over the Teesside Cast Products plant, which began laying off the first of 1,600 staff last Friday.
The VC group, which refers to itself as a consortium of buyers with plans to forge supply deals with downstream customers for Teesside slab, is being backed by Middlesbrough mayor Ray Mallon.
But as it returned to the region for further private discussions, local MPs appeared divided.
Earlier this week, Redcar MP Vera Baird, said a sale of TCP was “the best outcome we could have” and urged patience while a deal was put together.

“What Teesside does not want is for the company to fall into the hands of asset strippers.”
