Running their own food business seemed a natural progression for a pair of siblings who found their calling in their mother’s kitchen, writes ZAHARAH OTHMAN
THE Malaysian Kitchen promotion by a free tabloid in London was making an impact on Malaysian restaurants in the capital, especially the newly-established restaurant in Paddington, central London.
Chef Nur Fauzi Syed Mohamed Naguib, 26, was busy delegating his team while orders for main courses, desserts and starters were pouring in.
Seven months ago, Fauzi would have panicked at the thought of producing Malay dishes by himself.
Formerly a chef de partie at a gentlemen’s club, the Garrick Club — a famous haunt of actors from West End theatres — he was adept in western cooking, dishing out roast chicken and lamb chops instead of the singgang and satay goreng that he is churning out now.
