Rocky Horror Creator O’Brien Has His Eyes on The Stripper
Richard O’Brien, creator of The Rocky Horror Show, is to star in a new pulp-fiction thriller he co-wrote, The Stripper, to begin performances at Hornchurch’s Queen’s Theatre, Essex, on the outskirts of London’s East End, Aug. 29-Sept. 19.
It will then tour to Milton Keynes Theatre (Sept. 22-26), and Glasgow’s King’s Theatre (Sept. 29-Oct. 3).
Set in the seedy world of strip joints and dodgy dating agencies in 1961 California, it is described in press materials as a “burlesque and bullets” musical. Based on a pulp fiction novel by Carter Brown, who wrote more than 150 crime stories which sold in excess of 70 million copies, it features strippers, cops and sexy secretaries and other classic archetypes from the world of the dime novel.
